Egypt boasts some of the finest diving in the entire Red Sea, from the coral playgrounds of southern Sinai to the undiscovered offshore splendour of the deep south. Well-known diving areas like Ras Mohammed National Park, situated south of Sharm El Sheikh, have received the lion's share of international attention, but even in the most intensely dived resort areas, there are still untouched reefs waiting to be discovered.
This part of Egypt is becoming more and more popular and is well known as an ideal place for SCUBA diving holidays. The advantage for UK divers is that this world-renowned diving area, suitable for divers of all levels, is only five hours away. Thousands of kilometres of coastline are blessed with extensive reef formations and islands. The underwater scenery, rich with coral-covered walls and beautiful gardens, coupled with year round good weather, offers an unforgettable experience above and below the water. Outstanding underwater visibility gives you the opportunity to observe over 400 varieties of coral and 1,500 species of fish, turtle and shark that make the Red Sea their home.

◊ Make sure your travel insurance also covers scuba diving to the depths you anticipate to be diving (and other water sport activities you may indulge in).
◊ If taking your own diving equipment, be sure to test it before you go.
◊ Use dive centres that are PADI affiliated or other recognised diving agency.
◊ Only dive within the limits of your training.
◊ Wear a thin dive suit, which helps avoid stings from coral and sea life.
◊ Do not collect or touch shells, corals or marine life and do not feed the fish.
◊ Keep out the sun, use plenty of sun block and drink lots of non-alcoholic fluids when out at sea for long periods, otherwise you may miss some good diving due to sunburn and dehydration, not to mention predisposing yourself to DCI.
◊ Do not dive for 24 hours prior to flying home. This will help reduce the chances of suffering from decompression illness on the flight.
