We want you to have an enjoyable holiday, but please remember that when in a foreign country, you should exercise more care than at home. Part of the enjoyment of travelling abroad is experiencing a different way of life and cultures, but it may also mean experiencing different safety & hygiene standards to those found in the UK.

HELPFUL TIPS

Prescribed medications and medications for stomach disorders should be brought.
It is also recommended to bring mosquito repellent.
Water should only be drunk from sealed bottles and it is advisable to avoid ice.
Strong shoes for Excursions and sun hat are recommended.
Jackets and pullover for winter and evenings.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

You must ensure that you have complied with any health requirements such as vaccinations for any country you may be visiting, as these requirements do change. Therefore, it is wise to consult your doctor at your earliest opportunity. If you have a medical condition of any kind or if you are pregnant, then you must get clearance to travel from your own doctor and notify your insurance company. Your health is very important when travelling abroad, and we strongly advise that all of our clients take the time to consider this before they travel.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

You must have a comprehensive travel insurance cover. Hopefully, you will have a great time on your holiday and you won’t need it... but if not, you’ll need it for medicine, hospital, doctors, ambulances, replacement of lost luggage or personal belongings and alike, or possibly even a flight home. This may be refused to you if you are not insured, or you may have to pay in full yourself, locally.

LEISURE ACTIVITIES AND WATER SPORTS

It is your responsibility to satisfy yourself as to applicable insurance (if any) and activities are generally at your own risk. Clients who wish to go scuba diving require a doctor’s certificate to confirm their medical fitness (click here for more information...). The range of water sports, motorised water sports and (motorised) land sports varies within each destination and can change during the year, depending on the weather conditions.

You should note that the laws and safety regulations we are used to in the UK, may be of a lower standard in foreign countries.

SWIMMING POOLS

Hotels do not have lifeguards on duty by the pools. Swimming is at your own risk. Please be cautious, particularly with children. The depth and design of hotel pools varies. We suggest that, in all cases, you familiarize yourself with each pool, particularly prior to diving. Hotel swimming pools are opened and heated at the discretion of the hotel management.

SAFETY FEATURES

Hotels are not usually legally obliged to install toughened or safety glass in doors and windows, so please take extra care as it can be difficult to see if the patio door is open or closed.
When properties provide highchairs or cots for infants, it is suggested that clients check safety standards prior to use. Please note that safety standards and requirements are set by each country and may not be equivalent to the UK, in some cases this may be of a lower standard.

FOOD & DRINK

Nobody wants to be ill while on holiday, however, the heat combined with alcohol and new foods can cause stomach upsets. Hotels take food hygiene very seriously and endeavour to maintain high standards. By taking a few precautions and maintaining similar eating and drinking patterns that you follow at home, you can reduce the possibility of being affected by stomach upsets. In very hot climates, drink plenty of bottled water (3 to 5 litres per day) – it is very easy to dehydrate when there is a cool wind. Although the water in most modern hotels in Egypt is filtered and purified, we recommend that you ONLY drink bottled water. If you become unwell with dehydration or stomach upsets, refer to the hotel doctor as soon as possible.

CLIMATE & CLOTHING

Egypt enjoys long hot summers from April to October and mild winters, although places such as Cairo can be cool. Expect year-round sunshine in Taba Heights, Sharm el Sheikh and other Red Sea resort areas with temperatures in the 20’s C° even in January. Insect repellant may be useful. In summer, cool cottons are best and formal clothing is not necessary. Shorts and bare shoulders are not appreciated when visiting religious sites. In winter, visitors should take a warm jacket and layers – the desert nights can be cold. In the sun, keep head covered if exposed for prolonged period. Some beaches may have shingles, stones and rocks by the water’s edge… therefore, flip-flops or alike will be useful.

CHILDREN'S CLUBS

Children's Clubs will accept children under the age of 12 (minimum age with hotel descriptions). Each Club has a Supervisor who arranges the Club's activities, however the Supervisor is not responsible for any child that may wander away from the Club. Children must be of the age where they will stay in the Club without parental supervision. If not, parents are welcome to stay and play alongside their children. Hotels will not accept responsibility for any child leaving the Club unattended. Parents should ensure that the standards for childcare and facilities meet their requirements. Further information available on request.

DISABLED CUSTOMERS

No two people’s needs are the same and therefore, we ask you to let us know your specific requirements in writing at the time of booking. Due to the nature of some hotels/destinations, many may lack the simplest facilities, such as ramps for wheelchairs and door access. However, we will make every effort to recommend the most suitable holiday for you.

CAR HIRE

Conditions, speed limits and road structures/signage are very different to that used in the UK. Anybody wishing to hire a car requires a valid international driving license and should be wary of military convoy and visa restrictions in the Sinai region of Egypt. Please hire a car from a reputable company (your representative can point you in the right direction) although it is not something we recommend in some destinations due to the restrictions. Drinking laws exist, and do wear a seatbelt.

TWO WHEELS

Under no circumstances should anyone consider hiring a motorbike or moped in Egypt. Most will be inadequately insured and due to local laws and regulations it is not acceptable for tourists to use this mode of transport. Variable road conditions and drivers attitudes towards motorcycles can make riding dangerous, especially as the majority come without helmets.

INJURY

Any issues regarding accidents or injury should be reported immediately to the hotel or excursion provider and also to your resort representative.

FINANCIAL SECURITY PROVISION

Club Air Travel is a member of the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA No. C2284). This means that your money will be refunded or you will be repatriated if already abroad in the unlikely event that your holiday cannot be provided due to the Company’s insolvency.
